Aras Darmawan: At the Top of His Pitching Game
With clients including Brand New School, Buck, 1stAveMachine, Stardust, Sehsucht, Tronic, PostPanic and Onesize, Aras Darmawan works closely with top names creating pitchs for blue-chip brands. STYLE FRAMES takes a look at three of his most recent efforts.
Aras Darmawan: “Im an Indonesian design director for motion graphics based in NYC. My goal in every project is to blend any directions with high end design-driven visuals in order to push the boundaries of both commercial and experimental motion graphics.”
“I did the frames while working full time at Tronic in NY. They gave me full freedom so in the end I came up with two treatments involving a lot of playful particle systems that transition between each sequences of basketball games. This was intended as an animation to be shown during NBA games at Madison Square Garden.”
XEROX Brand Film pitch
Studio: 1st Ave Machine
“I was working side by side with director Asif Mian at 1st Ave Machine on defining the design treatment and direction. These style frames are about a natural disaster that can destroy humanity.
“The main challange (and most fun) when designing the frames was to design a CG paper installation that has a ‘human-made’ feel to it while maintaining the stylistic approach – it’s a little bit tricky, because usually you have to choose either one but somehow we managed to do it.
“While it didn’t win, the clients remarked that they love the design direction as much as we do.”
NIKE FUEL pitch
“Stardust came to me in December 2011 to help them on a pitch for Nike Fuel. I worked with the amazing creative director Brad Tucker in the NY office. I came up with different treatments based on the direction, but after three-four iterations, we went back to the beginning and decided to go with that.”
